2007 Spring Camporee Registration Form

Emergency Preparedness merit Badge Requirements

Theme:  Emergency Preparedness

This is a one day event do to scheduling conflicts.

Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge Book 2003 (2006 printing)

Note:  EPMB Page ## = the page in the book for reference.

This weekend will be designed to give the Scouts the opportunity to complete a number of the requirements for this merit badge.

The scenario for this weekend will be as follows:

We are camped in the Watchung Reservation, and there is a small plane crash.  The Scouts will be mobilized into groups and given an area to search.  These areas will have dummies with injuries, and the Scouts will have to find and treat the victim then transport them back to the Scout camping area (EPMB Pages 66 & 67).  We will demonstrate methods of transportation prior to the event.

This is not a competition but is an opportunity for the Scouts to use their skills.

We will be working on Requirements 4, 5, and 7.

Prior to this event, each troop should work on Requirements 6, 8a, and 8b.

The Scouts must complete Requirement 8c before the weekend (EPMB Page 77).  Add triangle bandages (home made - cut up an old sheet), 4 inch gauze pads, and any other first aid equipment you want to carry.

Requirement 1 of this merit badge is earn the First Aid Merit Badge.  All the Scouts should work on this badge if they do not have it prior to this event.

Before the event we will teach a common line search pattern that the Scouts can use to locate their victim (EPMB Page 37).

We will demonstrate ground to air signals (EPMB 32 to 35).

Most troops or Scouts have small hand-held radios.  Please bring them so we can setup a common frequency for communication during this exercise.  Radios with a 5 mile range or greater would be the best to use.

As more details are worked out you will be notified.

If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, please contact John Barsnica at (908) 862‑0648 or Dennis Cassidy at (908) 558‑1708.

We hope to see all your Scouts at this event.
